GameTime Cleveland 180: Lost Weekend

Same3Guys GameTime Cleveland

GameTime Cleveland podcastSummary:

The Buckeyes saw their winning streak and BCS Title chances end in Indy over the weekend as they played conservative offense. And the Browns nearly pulled off a major upset. But they just proved that every second counts. And every yard. Literally. We’ll recap both disappointing losses. It’s GameTime!

Hosts: Mike KresicTom Kresic

Running Time: 42:34

1Q: Buckeyes fall to Michigan State

  • Spartans win 34-24.

  • OSU looked tight to start the game. Offense could not get going and the defense let MSU’s first drive continue with two stupid penalties on 3rd down.

  • Once they finally got going, you could feel the momentum shift.

  • But why did we suddenly rip out every play from the offensive playbook except the Braxton/Hyde runs? Urban choked this one away by being too conservative. This wasn’t supposed to happen as it did with Tressel.

2Q: End of a nice run

  • Were the Buckeyes overlooking the Spartans? Or were they just tight at the start?

  • The big Braxton debate came into play here. Would he be able to make plays with his arm when the team needed it? Or would he revert to a threat with his legs only?

3Q: Browns just miss a major shocker

  • NE 27-26.

  • The Browns outplayed the Patriots for most of the game. They held NE scoreless in the 1st half.

  • Brady also had to play without Gronk for most of the second half.

  • Defense unable to stop NE when we needed it. They played better than last week against the Jags, but they gave up all 27 points in the 2nd half. You can’t blame all of that on the bad Pass Interference call late in the 4th.

  • Gordan is pretty special. Looks like he’s not running top speed yet he pulls away from everyone on the field. He’s shattering all of the Browns receiver records, including Braylon’s yards in a single season (in only 11 games and with three more to come).

  • Gordan talked during the week how he’d make more plays than Aquib Talib. And he backed it up.

4Q: More Browns

  • Loss of Gronk certainly hurts New England’s playoff hopes. Cincy is right on their heels for the #2 best record in AFC (and a bye). Brady doesn’t have many weapons to throw to (or hand off to).

  • Seattle and Denver will lock up #1 seeds. But who will be the team that catches fire and makes a great playoff run?
